Joshua 1

Be Strong and Courageous

Joshua takes over Moses' duties, responsibilities, and leadership. God speaks to Joshua just like He spoke with Moses, and God's people say that they will obey him just like they obeyed Moses.
There were no debates on weather Joshua should be the next leader, it was just a given, because God chose Him.

This chapter has a phrase that is repeated three times "Be strong and courageous"

" Be strong and courageous for you shall cause this people to inherit the land that I swore to their fathers to give them" (verse 6)
"Be strong and courageous. Do not be frightened, and do not be dismayed, for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go." (verse 9)
"Whoever rebels against your commandment and disobeys your words, whatever you command him, shall be out to death. "Only be strong and courageous."" ( verse 18)

It is clear why he had to be strong and courageous, he wasn't as old as Moses was, he didn't have not seniority, he had to lead millions of people to war, he had to make sure people are living by the law and by God's words only... it was a lot and these words were needed for him.

Today...
Although we are not going to an actual war, or have nearly as many responsibilities that Joshua had, these words also apply to us.

Everyday we battle the desires of our flesh. If we do not then we should check where do we stand with God, because the closer you get to God the more imperfect you see yourself... We need to not give up on the people around us, on ourselves, we need to be strong and courageous to speak the truth and be strong to live the righteous life without being ashamed of what people are thinking about us, or saying about us.

"This Book of Law shall not depart from your mouth, but you shall meditate on it day and night, so that you may be careful to do according to all that is written in it. For when you will make your way prosperous, and then you will have good success." (verse 8)

This verse should be one of those verse that we have memorized, or have  a clear idea of it.
First of all the Book of Law, today it's our Bible... it should not be laying in our sock drawers, or should not be decoratively stand on our book shelf, or lay on our nightstands, it should be read and CRAREFULY read.

Meditating, studying, praying, spending time with God and listening to what He is saying to us, should be a habit.

Then we have to carefully follow what God is saying to us, through the daily reading of the Word and constant prayer.

And THEN and ONLY THEN will we make our way prosperous and will have good success.

Your view of success will be completely different than that of this world, it will be the same of God's.
