Joshua 5-6

Fighting our Battles

In chapter 5 we find out that the second generation of the male weren't circumcised and Joshua by the commandment of God circumcised all the men.

We also see in chapter 5 that until the day people of Israel crossed Jordan and started eating off of that land, God sent his people manna, a bread from the sky. Everyday, even when they didn't obey God.

The great city of Jericho was in front of God's people and I'm sure that Joshua and warriors were thinking of some kind of a plan of attack, it wasn't like they would go and attack without asking God, but I'm sure people were maybe sharpening their swords, making more arrows, making ladders to climb up the walls, etc..

But God had His own plan of attack, a plan that would once again reveal how powerful and great He is.

God sends one of his own warriors to Joshua to tell him the plan of attack, and Joshua without question follows every word. It might've been strange or confusing to him but nonetheless he obeyed every word.

Chapter 6: Joshua did exactly what was told to him. "And just as Joshua had commanded the people, seven priests bearing the seven trumpets of rams' horns before the Lord went forwards, blowing the trumpets, with the ark of covenant of the Lord following them. The armed men were walking before the priests who were blowing the trumpets, and the rear guard was walking after the ark while the trumpets blew continually" (verse 8,9)

Everyday for six days they walked around the city ones.  People of Israel didn't make a sound just the trumpets were heard.
On the seventh day though, people walked around the city seven times and on the seventh time Joshua said " Shout, for the Lord has given you the city" (verse 16)
He also tells his people that they are not to take anything from the city for themselves only gold and silver would go in the treasury of God everything else is devoted to destruction (cursed)

As the people shouted the walls of Jericho fell and people from all direction captured the city, Joshua told the two spies that were hidden by Rahab to go get her and everyone who were in her house out of the city, and so they did.

Today...
What can we take away from this story for ourselves to use today?

Today we come across things that we look at and think we will never overcome this. Whether is a cracked marriage, or deep financial problems, broken heart, or anything else.
We want to fix this situation, or just get over it already... we look at it from different direction, try to work out some kind of plans to resolve this problem, we're trying to heal this wound, or we're just try to ignore it...
But what we're missing is that God works in a much different ways that we've ever imagined.

When we're ready to listen, He will tell us exactly how to deal with one or another situation, it might be strange and confusing, or it might last longer than we want it to, but if you do what God tells you to do, follow His word the walls of this great problem, this pain, will shatter and we will once again see how Amazing our God is!
