1 Kings 2

Ways of people before Jesus and after His resurrection.

This chapter captures the last words of David to Solomon. He wanted Solomon to walk in the ways of the Lord like he himself did, "That you may prosper in all that you do and wherever you turn, that the Lord may establish Him work that He spoke... "If your sons pay close attention to their way, to walk before Me in faithfulness with all their heart and with all their soul, you shall not lack a man on the throne of Israel"" verses 3-4

And after this encouragement he orders Solomon to avenge him. David tells Solomon about Joab and Shimei. After this statement there are no more record of David saying anything, and David was laid to rest with his fathers.

Solomon did according to his father's words and at the end both Joab and Shimei were executed. Then his older brother, Adonijah that wanted to steal the throne from Solomon ask Solomon though his mother to have one of king's concubines, which would start a rivalry between Solomon and Adonijah. Solomon says that the Lord Himself appointed him as a king and so he ordered Adonijah to be killed.

"So the kingdom was established in the hand of Solomon" verse 46

Today...
One of the reasons why Jesus Christ was rejected and not accepted was because he was preaching forgiveness and love. People of the Old Testament didn't know these ways that Jesus preached, in this chapter we see how people were dealt with; they got punished for what they did, and most likely paid for their sin with their life.

Jesus Christ came and He preached that we should love our neighbors like ourselves, that we should care for one another, that God is love!

People might say that humans just became more civilized and that's why we don't shed blood like we used to, but believe it or not Jesus Christ started this "civilized" way of thinking, because before Jesus it was 'whatever synagogue decided went' and if they caught you doing something they didn't approve of you would be executed.

It was a bizarre thing to think that if you did something wrong you could just pray and ask God for forgiveness and the One and Holy God will first-of-all hear you, and second, that He will forgive you if you mean what you say.

But it's true! Jesus died for us to be able to do this, Jesus had shed his blood which is ultimately that straight and simple connection between us and God.

Lets cherish this relationship that we are able to have and thank God for giving us this opportunity to be forgiven by just saying a couple of words, and sending his Son for me and you and giving us the words of encouragements that are found in the pages of the Bible.
