1- Samuel 18-22
Terminate the little roots so they don't yield big fruits

David is now appointed to be Saul's armor-barrier. David and Jonathan become really close friends during this time and as the time went on Saul saw that God was with David and Saul appointed David to be the head of men of war.
"David had success in all his under-takings for the Lord was with him. And when Saul saw that he had great success, he stood in fearful awe of him" (Ch.18 verse 14-15)
Saul and David went to many wars together and when they returned people would cheer and say "Saul has struck down his thousands, and David his ten thousands"(Ch.18 verse 7)
People everywhere loved David and looked up to him, but when Saul heard this cheer he got really jealous of David and paranoid because he knew that his kingship is rejected and that Jonathan now will not be king, because people loved David and would appoint him as their king. (Although God already appointed David to be the king.)
So Saul first secretly tried to kill David by the hand of Philistines, sending David to get Philistines fore-skin and bring it to Saul as a price for Saul's daughter, but God was protecting David. AS a result David was only more loved by the people and now he was married to Saul's daughter, that loved him.
Saul then tries to kill David by himself, he throws spears at David while being tormented by the evil spirit. David figures out that Saul is trying to kill him and he flees. His wife, Saul's daughter and Jonathan, Saul's son help him escape. In the process of running away a priest aids David and gives him some bread from the temple and Goliath's sword, and as a result Saul orders to kill all the priests. Only one priest escaped and ran to David.
David was in hiding in the caves "And everyone who was in debt, and everyone who was bitter in soul, gathered to him. And he became commander over them. And there were with him about four hundred men." (Ch.22 verse 2)
These people were adding up and before David knew he had a whole army right in front of him. David stayed in hiding from Saul, and respected Saul as a king and God was with him.

We all know that jealousy is bad. But we don't consider it to be such a "bad" sin.
This story is a great example of how "little" sins can get a hold of an individual and get them to the point where their life is completely turned upside down.
When Saul first saw that God was with David he feared David, and liked him too. Later as he got jealous he tried to kill him and killed anyone that helped David. He killed priest, God appointed people because of his hate for David.
Sins that we label as "little sins" are not little at all, but very powerful and if we ignore them they will only grow in more power within us and before we know it our life would be completely different and our heart filled with this powerful power of this sin.
We know that the love of money is the root of all kind of evil (1-Timothy 6:10) When you look at this fact it might seem a little bit silly, just because I love money it doesn't mean I'm a murder, how is it the root of all evil? The key word is the ROOT, the root is the starting point, it's small and harmless but it yields greatly if it's not terminated.
Terminating little roots of jealousy and other "harmless" sins is hard work, but with God nothing is impossible!
If we let these "little" sins slide and not pay too much attention to them, calming ourselves down saying " Well I'm not like that one person, I'm better than all of these people, so I'm good." The only person we should be comparing ourselves to is Jesus in the light of the Bible.
Let's check our hearts again and again and ask God to help us to really terminate these roots that are so small and seem harmless from out hearts.
