2-Samuel 8
God promised David that He will bless him and built his kingship when David wanted to build a house for God.
"And the Lord gave victory to David wherever he went." verse 6
God gave victory to David over:
- Philistines
- Moab- became servants to David
- King of Zobah, Hadadezer- took 1,700 horsemen and 20,000 foot soldiers
- Syrians- became servants to David
- Edomites- stoke 18,000 down, and became servants to David
Nations that were subdued and neighboring nations brought silver and gold to David and King David dedicated all these gifts to the Lord.
Today...
David knew that the only reason he is being successful is because the Lord is with him; he never boasted and never forgot who the real Hero is.
Often in this world we put more trust in humans and in our own self to be successful, but we soon fall and stumble. Like David we need to seek guidance from the Lord.
Fighting battles is hard work and when people brought David gifts he did not take them as a reward for himself he gave it to God! His heart wasn't tied to the gifts and bribes, all he cared about is being on the Lords side. He also understood that it wasn't his man power that gave him all these victories, it was God Himself fighting alongside David.
Being in school I have noticed that I do much better on an exam when I study and ask God to help me through it than when I just study and put trust in my own self that I do well. Trust in God gives me peace and serene feeling that everything is under control. I do my part of studying and I know that God will bless me in remembering the right things and gives me wisdom and calmness when I take my exams.
When God helps us through an exam or any other situation it is important to recognize that it was God who gave us this success and truly understand that without Him we wouldn't have been able to come this far.
