2-Samuel 21
No one else to blame but me

There was a famine in the land of Israel for three years "And David sought the face of the Lord. And the Lord said, "There is blood-guilt on Saul and on his house, because he put the Gibeonites to death"" verse 1
David wanted to make things right so he called Gibeonites and asked them "What shall I do for you? And how shall I make atonement, that you may bless the heritage of the Lord?" verse 3
Gibeonites wanted seven of Saul's male offspring so they could hang them as a punishment to Saul.
It doesn't say that David asked God about this, and it doesn't say that God approved of it.
But when the rain still did not come "David went and took the bones of Saul and the bones of his son Jonathan from the men of Jabesh-gilead... and they gathered the bones of those who were hanged. And they buried the bones of Saul and his son Jonathan in the land of Benjamin... And after that God responded to the plea for the land." Verses 12-14
Today...
After so much time has passed God decided to punish the land with famine for Saul's sin. Maybe it was to test David how he will act...I can only guess, but I know that God's timing is always right.
And even though Saul's offspring didn't have anything to do with Saul killing Gibeonites they still got punished. They should not have been killed because in Deuteronomy 24:16 "nor shall children be put to death because of their father"... but they suffered for Saul's sin and after David gave them and Saul and Jonathan a proper burial God no longer punished the land.
By studying the Bible we know that each of us will individually give account to God for our life here on earth. It will not matter who your parents were and what they did. God will not punish us because of our parents acts and also he will not excuses us for our parents righteousness.
So many people today are putting their faith and salvation in their religious parents' hands and hoping that since their parents are religious and saved then they will be saved as well. But that's the biggest and scariest lie of all- lying to yourself about being saved.
When I was younger I heard a sermon in church and it stuck with me; Imagine that you die right now and you come before God and God looks through your life and asks you why did you say this instead of being quiet or why did you stay quiet when it was the perfect opportunity to act and possibility save a soul? It will be all you, no one to blame and no excuses, everything that was done in secret will be known to everyone. It's scary to think about because I know I have made so many mistakes.
It's going to happen and everyone knows it, but some are choosing to ignore this fact and try very hard to convince themselves that after death nothing happens.
You, personally are the only one who will give account to God for your life.
I have been thinking to myself what if I come to God and He will ask me, why should I let you in to my kingdom, how are you worthy to enter this holy place, what have you done to deserve to be here? It sends chills down my spine just thinking about it, but I put my trust in Jesus and thank Him everyday for taking all of my sins and being my advocate in front of the Lord. And I know that Jesus will stick up for me as long as I will show Him through my life and stick up for the Truth.
