1-Kings 4
This point in Solomon's life is so well known to us. We've heard this story since we were in Sunday school. It's was so familiar to me that I had trouble taking something out of this for myself, but as I read deeper into it and prayed a new thought came into my mind.
This chapter reminds me of a verse that says "If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask God, Who gives generously to all without reproach, and it will be given him..." James 1:5
We know that Solomon was extremely smart and wise because God, Himself gave that wisdom and understanding from above to Solomon. We study and take life lessons from the book of Ecclesiastes and Proverbs because they give us insight on the wisdom that Solomon had.
Solomon says that "The fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge..." Proverbs 1:7
Sometimes it comes to a point where people study and value the book of Proverbs and the book of Ecclesiastes more than the words of Jesus written in the Gospels.
We almost place Solomon at the same level as we place Jesus, concerning their wisdom and what is written about them. But it's really important to understand that Solomon was just like us, a human being, and the ONLY reason he was so wise is because God gave him that wisdom. And as it says in James each of us can be as wise if we ask God for wisdom, and ask Him with faith.
The other part is that when we ask for wisdom, wisdom doesn't just drop from heaven on us. We go through tough trials in our lives that teach us wisdom and give us understanding of things... just like when we pray for patience we go through the most uncomfortable and irritating situations that teach us patience. But at the end of these trials and tough points that we go through we learn how to be wise and how to be patient.
Don't be afraid to ask God for wisdom. God gives generously because He has absolutely everything. He knows what's best for us and doesn't give more than what we can handle.
Some people have trouble REALLY believing in Jesus as their Heavenly Father, they have trouble trusting Him, but without trust there is no faith, and without faith there is no salvation.
Amen.
