Deuteronomy 24

Wife & Generations

The beginning of this chapter states that divorces happened even way back in the day, it wasn't a good thing, but it's something that was a reality.

One thing that I want to highlight is that it says "When a man is newly married, he shall not go out with the army or be liable for any other public duty. He shall be free at home one year to be happy with his wife whom he has taken" (verse 5)

Many people think that back in the day all marriages were very strict, and not capable of containing any aspect of love as we understand it today. This says that people got married and were happy together, cared enough to spend time with one another. I think it's also very important to not forget to have quality time with your significant other. You need to build a foundation from the beginning.

I know couples that have gotten married and had kids right away and all their attention went to the kids and once the kids have grown they had no idea what to talk about, or how to live again... they had to start "dating" again to get to know each other.

Another verse that we can imply to our everyday life is verse 16. It says that a father should not be put to death because of his son's sins and vise versa. "Each one shall be put to death for his own sin" (verse 16)

Now we don't kill our brothers and sisters in Christ because they have sinned, but I want to notice another aspect of this verse.

Taking it abstractly and generally kids shall not be punished for their father's sins, as it also says in the New Testament.

Like with the bad so it goes along with the good too, in example: just because your parents are Christian does not make you a Christian. If you believe that you will be saved because your parents are Christians you are lying to yourself. Becoming Christian is VERY personal and deep to each individual, it cannot be automatically implied.
