Joshua 3-4
Taking steps forward

God beings his work with Joshua in these first few chapters. He again shows miracles to his people.
God tells Joshua exactly what to do and Joshua passes the word on to the people.
It was time for God's people to go into their promised land and fight some battles, but they had to cross Jordan, one of the biggest river that flows into the Dead Sea. The ark of covenant of the Lord was carried by the priests, they were heading into the waters first.
" As soon as those bearing the ark were dipped in the brink of the water (now the Jordan overflows all its banks throughout the time of harvest), the waters coming from down from above stood and rose up in a heap very far away" (verse 15,16)
The carriers of the ark stood in the middle of the Rivers until all the people would cross.
God divided waters before, the Black Sea was also divided as we read in Exodus when God's people were fleeing from Egyptians.
Joshua 4: When the Jordan River divided Israelites could cross over without getting carried away by the current or even getting wet.
Once they crossed over Joshua by God's word told twelve people to get twelve stone out of the Jordan River while it was still divided and bring them out to where they would lodge that night. "These stones shall be to the people of Israel a memorial forever" (verse 7)
It is mentioned that this might be happening during the time of harvest when River Jordan is much wider than usual, and the usual width of Jordan was about 15 miles, so it took days for people of Israel to cross this River. But ones they did, carrier of the ark also start moving to the other side of the River and ones the priest were out of the water the River began to flow again, like it used to.
TODAY...
What can we take away from this story that we can relate to today?
This story is a true story and it's not a metaphor, but in the present day it can serve as a metaphor for us.
For me personally this is crossing the path from my old life(sinful life) to my new life(life with Jesus) and the pathway itself is repentance. Can you relate to this?
God guides us to where we need to go... By faith we walk! It's a dangerous spiritual world out there and there is not coming out spiritually alive without Jesus Christ. You can become a millionaire without Jesus, you can gain all the riches in the world, but you will loose your spiritual self, and without it there is only one place you end up at after death, hell.
It scares me today how many people know that they are going to hell and they do not care about it, they're celebrating it...
God help me to really be the light in this world, Your light. Amen
