Why should I do everything according to HIS will?
Psalm 1
This one of the psalms that everyone knows by heart. In
this psalm we see who the blessed people and the righteous people are, and how
they live their life, and we also see what awaits the wicked.
“1.Blessed is the man who walks not in the counsel of wicked, nor
stands in the way of sinners, nor sits in the seats of scoffers;
2. But his delight is in the law of the LORD, and on his law he
meditates day and night.
3. He is like a tree planted by streams of water that yields its fruit
in its season, and its leaf does not wither. In all that he does he prospers.
4. The wicked are not so but are like chaff that the wind drives away.
5. Therefore the wicked will not stand in the judgment, not sinners in
the congregation of he righteous;
6. For the LORD knows the way of the righteous, but the way of the wicked
will perish.”
Psalm
1
It all seems to make sense. But
this time when I re-read it one of the verses jumped out at me--the second
verse “But his delight is in the law of the LORD…”
When I encounter obstacles in my life, I pray to God for His help and for His guidance for me to choose the right way, and also that God’s
will to be done. I want God’s will to be done in my life. But sometimes I don’t
like God’s will, sometimes I just don’t understand it, but I know that God is
God and He does everything according to His will, and then again I asked him to
do according to His will so why do I get upset? It embarrassing and terrible
but I confess God’s will and my own will and delight do not always fall in
sync. I want something done a particular way but God’s plans are completely different from mine.
This verse says that the blessed man is he who’s delight and wishes
fall in sync with God’s law. I understand it like this: the happiest man is he who’s wishes ARE God’s wished because he and the LORD are in sync. I will
not need to make myself be humble and trouble my mind with “Why God?!” and finally to submit
to God’s will, I will be able to do what I want because what I want will be the
same thing that God wants, because I will study and meditate in God’s word.
We are all humans and every day we fight with temptations
and desires of flesh/selfish thoughts/ and wrongdoings, we strive to be like “a
tree planted by streams of water that yields its fruit in its season, and its
leaf does not wither. In all that he does he prospers.”
Nowhere in the Bible does it say that it’ll be easy to be
Christians, to be followers of Christ, but with God’s help we will be able to conquer
our sinful desires and if we endure till the end and still be faithful to Him we will
be saved. We grow our spiritual self and we change to be more like Christ (If
we ask God for help and truly want it).
“For I know the plans
I have for you, declares the LORD, plans for welfare and not for evil, to give
you a future and a hope.” Jeremiah 29:11
When we start to understand that God loves us and wants only
the best for us, and does everything for us, then when we even do not
understand the will of God, we are thankful to Him that He does according to
His will and not ours.
